I bought this 1940’s heavy satin dress for its beautiful collar. The beading had turned a dark silver patina and the pearls a deep cream luster which can only be obtained with age.
Unfortunately the dress was heavily stained and in hindsight I should have taken a before photo. The stains were so bad that the cleaners made me sign a waver that if the dress was destroyed during cleaning they wouldn’t be held accountable, I signed this because they had worked miracles with previous dresses they had cleaned.
I cleaners gave me my dress and the only stains left on this luxurious cream dress were around the button area, I was overjoyed until I looked at the collar, the cleaning had taken away most of the patina in the beads and taken all the lustre of the pearl off, as you can imagine I could have cried but these are the chances you take.
Here I show you the before and after of the collar.
